Dreamers: The Art of Revery Architecture
This exhibition explores the aesthetic imagination behind Revery Architecture, a studio that champions art and dreams as essential to a thoughtfully built environment — not just for individual clients, but for the public at large.
At its heart is design principal Venelin Kokalov, who immigrated from Bulgaria to Canada in 2002 and joined Bing Thom Architects, forming a 14-year creative partnership with the celebrated architect. Following Thom's death in 2016, Kokalov took over the firm, renaming it Revery Architecture to reflect its balance of reverie and technical precision.
Kokalov's process begins with prolific hand-drawing, a deliberately artisanal method he believes unlocks architectural forms that rise to the level of art. The result is a distinctive curvilinear style that softens the rigidity of the modern city, prioritizing poetic form even when it isn't the cheapest path to build.
